We are not just saying this because we are fans of Jen Stark. Well, actually yes. Jen Stark work has captivated our attention and has inspired many posts in our site. Since her departure from her native Miami to L.A, we and many others have craved the opportunity to view her colorful cosmic paper sculptures in person, once again. Don’t miss that chance during Art Basel Weekend at The Miami Art Project Art Fair, where Jen Stark will debut 3 pieces at Cooper Cole’s Gallery (Toronto) exhibition space. Jen Stark will be featuring 3 pedestal pieces with holographic paper as her medium. The Miami Art Project is a brand new fair but by reviewing the exhibitors list, it promises to be a hit. Looking forward to that and so should you. The Miami Project Art Fair will be located right next to Art Miami Art Fair (another of one of our favorite fairs) on NE 1st Ave & NE 30th Street, Miami, FL 33137. This is in Miami’s trendy Mid-town district.

Intercontinental Miami lights up the skyline of Miami with giant LED digital canvas. 11/12/2012

As you drive over the MacAurthur Causeway this “Miami Art Week” glance over to your right and you’ll be amazed. The Intercontinental Hotels new 19 story digital canvas debut’s to the public for Art Basel weekend. You will see Miami’s skyline gets a colorful and animated upgrade. We first posted about the newly renovated Intercontinental Hotel back on November 12. It brings pride to see entities of our city making moves and strides to raise the status of Miami as a viable world class destination. The newly LED Digital canvas will change our skyline forever. Perhaps trumping the Miami Tower (with LED upgrade of its own) for the title of “Most Recognizable Building in Miami.” I know we are far from the impressive LED repertoire of cities such Shanghai, Hong Kong and NYC, however this newly $30 million dollar renovation to the Intercontinental Hotel is an upgrade to Miami’s skyline.

9. Enjoy Music and Art @ Pop Up Piano with Alex Mijares

art basel event
This year look forward to the return of musicians and artists coming together during Art Basel Miami weekend in the uniquely performing arts project called Pop-Up Piano. The project will be sporadically stationed across different high traffic areas in our city, promoting the beauty of the arts.

“Our mission is to create unique, cultural experiences with national and international artists, musicians and sponsors in order to enhance, revive and support communities around the world who are passionate about the arts.”

Pop-Up Piano Miami is inspired by the New York City organization Sing for Hope. Sing for Hope mobilizes professional artists in volunteer programs that benefit schools, hospitals and communities. Sing for Hope’s Pop-Up Pianos celebrate the vision of arts accessibility for all.

The inspirational project motivated the Co-Founders of The Black Key Group, Whitney Lykins and Isabella Acker, to bring Pop-Up Piano to Miami with the support of Steinway Piano Gallery of Miami.

Through a mutual love for public art, and a shared vision of the impact this would have on the city, an eight person committee of local professionals was soon formed to execute the project. Committee members include Jessica Wade Pfeffer, Meris Thomas, Daniel Rivero, Patricia Baro, Arnaud Pages, Gaudi Castro, Isabella Acker, and Whitney Lykins.

During the week of Art Basel Miami Beach (December 6 – 9, 2012), Steinway & Sons Miami will present Pop-Up Piano Miami 2012, a public arts project that premiered during Art Basel Miami Beach 2011. With the continued support of Steinway & Sons Miami and sponsors, this year the program is set to launch on a significantly larger scale by not only supporting local music and arts programs but also joining a global initiative.

Five to seven pianos from Steinway will be strategically placed across Wynwood, Midtown and Design District areas. Each piano will be customized by an artist and/or sculptor. Art Basel week spectators will have access to tickle the ivories between scheduled performances by talented musicians. PUPM will host an opening fundraiser event in collaboration with the Friends of the New World Symphony on Wednesday, December 5, that will feature a performance by a renowned Steinway-signed musician. The event will also host a silent auction of unique treats and donated gifts from partners. Funds that are raised from the auction and event tickets will be donated to Central Africa’s only symphony orchestra, Kimbangus Symphony Orchestra, located in Kinshasa, the heart of the Congo, to help them meet their goal of building a music school particularly for the street children, which is Kinshasa’s leading issue. After Art Basel Miami Beach week, the pianos will be donated to local charities with music programs. PUPM will also implement a specially designed music program for these charities where the pianos will reside.
