HOW TO CREATE INSTAGRAM “OUT OF FOCUS” EFFECT WITH PHOTOSHOP
Instagram has a pretty cool feature that lets you create emphasis inside your images by blurring the area surrounding it. It’s pretty cool because it kinda creates that depth of field effect on a wide open aperture setting of an expensive camera. Say a for example Canon Rebel. Experimenting with Photoshop for my own personal use I came up with these easy steps to replicate the blurring tool of Instagram and thus creating that depth of field look without needing an expensive camera.
Step 1
Open Image 645 pixel in width
Step 2
choose the Marquee tool or press the letter “M” on your keyboard
Step 3
on the top you’ll see a box that says “feather” input 50px
Step 4
Select the area you would like to emphasize
Step 5
go under Select/inverse to inverse your selection
Step 6
go under Filter/Blur/Gaussian Blur
Step 7
blur 7.6 pixels
That’s it. Pretty cool huh? If you would like to replicate the circular blurring effect on Instagram just use the circular marquee tool by pressing the small arrow inside the icon. Glad I shared. Corrections welcomed. With love from ArtofMiami.com.
Ps: Click on this link to see beautiful examples of the origin of this filter or as its called the tilt shift effect.

Thank you so much, exactly what I was looking for. Although for the image I was using, Lens Blur with a 15px radius gave a much better result.
