Just read an article about the great deeds that Miami-based artist Antonia Wright is doing in our community. Antonia Wright a fellow art teacher and artist that has been using art to help and heal woman in despair. Enjoy the video above and read this words from the artists herself.
During the month of April, I have been living at the Lotus House Women’s Shelter as an artist-in-residence. (www.lotushouseshelter.org)
While at the shelter, I started a new video project called, ‘Women Who Stand on The Sun’. I have been working one on one with guests from the shelter to create a large-scale video series. In each video, one sees a pair of feet floating in the air with the sun in between them. When I moved into the shelter, I knew that I wanted to take videos of the women’s feet. I have heard that the homeless have problems with their feet as they are always walking and standing on them. In the videos it appears that the women are floating and free. The pieces are a tribute to their inner strength and magic. I like the idea that wherever they go, they are always special and walking on the sun. I will show this work for the first time at the Lotus House fundraiser, Art Live. I envision a wall of glowing sunshine with feet freely floating throughout.
