WYNWOOD ART WALK MARCH 2012 IN A NUTSHELL
Last night at Miami’s Wynwood Art Walk deprived many of Miami’s best art. So if it was your first time at the Wynwood Art Walk and you left with the impression that it’s over hyped, please don’t. Y0u see, many of our best galleries: Frederic Snitzer, NOW, Diet Gallery, Spinello were closed because of their involvement in the historic Armory Show taking place this weekend in New York City. By the way, good luck to you guys in New York, represent Miami to the fullest.
Despite the diaspora, there still were highlights last night like the works above. Starting with Ascaso Gallery with Luis Tomasello’s glowing abstract designs. ONCE gallery had an interesting set of 3-D paintings by Miami-based artist Rafael Espitia. Even with out the 3-D glasses the art work has the illusion of dimension. We caught up there with Kiki Valdez who was down from New York and up dated us on his venture with Ozine. PanAmerica Artprojects still had the Erotic Show from last month. (advice: don’t enter the room to the far right. YIKES!!!) Finally, Peter Santa- Maria’s politically charged art was among the highlights. His work was located at the “pop-up gallery on 24th Street. SoulofMiami.org was at the art walk promoting the Philanthrofest event taking place April 14th. I wonder how the Instagram Challenge turned out? Till next time.
